Rand Robinson, Robot Repairman (Pitch Video)

Back in the '90s, Philips and Interscope asked Jerry Rees (director of The Brave Little Toaster, among many other projects) to direct a CG adventure called "Rand Robinson, Robot Repairman." Set in a futuristic Los Angeles, the project was initially intended to be a Jim Carrey vehicle, and also attracted the interest of Jeremy Piven, Harland Williams, and Sinbad. Adam McKay (The Ballad of Ricky Bobby) wrote a script. (For a while, it was also called "Rand Rawlins, which is how it appears in this video.) As Jerry led preproduction at Interscope, Philips worked to make sure they had tech support. They planned to coordinate a release of new products that would first be seen in the movie. This video was created for the European Philips group; the LA group loved Jerry's pitch so much that they wanted to duplicate the experience for their international colleagues. Unfortunately, Philips decided against pursuing film projects. Without their investment, Interscope wavered; several key players left the project. Although it's currently in a dormant state, the script continues to make the rounds in Hollywood to this day, and a sculpt of Rand armwrestling a robot is on display in an Interscope executive's office.
